Respirator Training and Fit Testing

Hours
4 hours

Description
29 CFR §1910.134:
"In the control of those occupational diseases caused by breathing air contaminated with harmful dusts, fogs, fumes, mists, gases, smokes, sprays, and/or vapors, the primary objective shall be to prevent atmospheric contamination. This shall be accomplished as far as feasible by accepted engineering control measures. When effective engineering controls are not feasible, or while they are being instituted, appropriate respirators shall be used."

"When it is clearly impracticable to remove harmful dusts, fogs, fumes, mists, gases, smokes, sprays, and/or vapors, or where emergency protection against occasional and/or relatively brief exposure is needed, the employer shall provide, and the employee exposed to such hazard shall use, approved respiratory equipment."

This course will provide employee training in the proper use, capabilities, and limitations of respirators. Students will learn to properly inspect, clean, sanitize, perform minor repairs, and store their respirators. The classroom portion of the class takes 1-2 hours, depending on the experience level of the participants. The Qualitative Fit Testing Lab portion takes about 15 minutes per test.
