Description
Each year workers are killed and disabled in excavation and trench cave-ins
in California. Almost all of these accidents result from failure to shore
or slope the trench or from inadequate shoring or sloping. This course
provides guidelines based on CAL/OSHA standards for shoring, sloping,
and benching.
Topics
Students will be instructed on safe rescue awareness practices:
- Before rescue - site/cave-in inspections and rescue action planning
- Suggested outlines for emergency shoring and safe zones
- When a trench is also a confined space
- Safe removal of victims
- Post-rescue activities.
